Theodore J. Wadas, O.D.

Upon graduating from Optometry School over 30 years ago, Dr. Wadas returned to New York Mills and opened his private practice. 

 

Having practiced as a solo-provider for almost his entire career, Dr. Wadas feels fortunate to have his children join him. 

 

When not in the office, Dr. Wadas enjoys spending time with his family, tending to his large garden and hitting the links with his three sons.

Dr. Wadas is available to see patients at the Whitesboro office.

Nancy M. Bulas, O.D.

Originally from Buffalo, NY, Dr. Bulas moved to the Mohawk Valley following completion of Optometry school and marrying her husband, Dr. Ted Wadas. 

 

Having practiced at a variety of different local offices, Dr. Bulas founded North Country Eye Associates in 1998. 

 

When not in the office, Dr. Bulas enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and volunteering at church events.

Dr. Bulas is available to see patients at the Barneveld office.

Matthew J. Wadas, O.D.

Dr. Wadas was born and raised in the Mohawk Valley having graduated from Holland Patent High School, Mohawk Valley Community College and Utica College. He went on to attain his doctorate at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Elkins Park, PA. He completed additional training at numerous eye clinics, hospitals and private offices throughout the Northeastern United States; working with and alongside some of the top eye care professionals in the field. 

 

Dr. Wadas is committed to providing top-notch, patient-centered eye care and remains up to date on the latest medical and technological advancements. He is thrilled to return to the community he grew up in to work and raise his family. Practicing with and alongside his parents, wife and siblings is the icing on the cake.

Dr. Wadas is available to see patients at the Whitesboro and Herkimer offices. He is also part of the medical staff at the Masonic Care Community of New York.

Amanda M. Scalise, O.D.

Dr. Scalise was born and raised in Marcy and attended Whitesboro schools. She then studied biology at Utica College and went on to receive her doctorate from Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Elkins Park, PA. After interning at several private practices, and gaining a wealth of knowledge from the Manchester VA Medical Center, she is beyond thrilled to be back in the area providing eye care to the lovely people she grew up with.

She currently resides in the Barneveld area with her husband, Dr. Matt Wadas, their cat Nola and yorkie pup Louie. When not in the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, has a passion for cooking, loves to travel and photograph every moment along the way. She is also the creative mind behind @wadaseye on Instragram (be sure to follow!)

Kimberly A. Wadas, O.D.

Primary Care | Low Vision

 

Dr. Kimberly Wadas is the most recent addition to the Wadas Eye Group. Born and raised in Central New York, she spent much of her childhood working, filing, and answering phones at her father’s practice. Her experiences and interactions with patients influenced her decision to pursue a career in optometry.

 

Dr. Wadas completed her undergraduate studies at Utica College, and was granted admission to MCPHS University School of Optometry. Throughout her time in New England, she volunteered and provided vision services to a diverse patient base. Her clinical externships focused primarily on primary care, including complex disease, with a specialty in low vision. Dr. Wadas’ clinical 

externships have given her a strong foundation to provide cutting-edge care to her patients. She was also the recipient of numerous awards, including BSK for academic excellence and the William Feinbloom award for low vision.

Dr. Wadas is available to see patients at the Whitesboro and Herkimer locations. Additionally, she is a New York State Certified Low Vision Specialist, seeing patients at the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI).

Donald B. Knapp, O.D.

Primary Care 

 

Dr. Knapp received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1981 from the SUNY College of Optometry in New York City. Dr. Knapp returned to the Mohawk Valley to practice, where he had been born and raised.

 

In 1987 he joined the practice of Dr. Donald Mitchell and Dr. Charles Bauer, a long established practice in Herkimer. Dr. Knapp also worked at the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired as a Low Vision specialist from 1981 to 1989. Until recently and for the past 15 years, Dr. Knapp tended to the visual needs for the residents at the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville. 

Dr. Knapp is available to see patients at the Herkimer location.

Mark M. Ainsworth, O.D.

Dr. Mark Ainsworth earned his doctorate in Optometry from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry (Salus University) in 1991, following his undergraduate studies at St. John Fisher College, Rochester, NY.  In 2004, Dr. Ainsworth was named Optometrist of the year by the New York State Optometric Association and in 2003 was an Accent on Excellence honoree.  Dr. Ainsworth believes in giving back to his community and is involved in many organizations.

Dr. Ainsworth is available to see patients at the Herkimer location.
